Vertex Chambers recently represented a leading multinational company in a Writ Petition challenging a demand of over BDT 250 crore (USD 20 million) on account of VAT by the National Board of Revenue (NBR). We successfully secured an interim order from the High Court Division which issued a show cause notice against the National Board of Revenue (NBR). This case questions the constitutionality of certain sections under the VAT and Supplementary Duty Act 2012 with particular focus on “unregistered” businesses and their right to do trade or business as mandated by the Constitution.
